Melvin Everson: Gwinnett Tech

[1]Following Governor Deal’s election, Everson was appointed a member of
the Deal Transition Team.

Everson has served his community well and his entire life has been one of
_giving_ _back _to the community. Everson is a chartered member and past
president of the Snellville Optimist Club. He served two terms as President
and Vice President of the South Gwinnett High School PTSA. He has also
served two terms as Vice President, and one term as Treasurer and currently
in his third term as President of the Lilburn Cooperative Ministry. Everson
was appointed by Gwinnett County Commission Chairman in 2004 as a member of
the Gwinnett County Human Relations Board. In 2005, Everson was appointed as
a member to the Gwinnett School Board Human Relations Advisory Board by Dr.
Francis Davis, Human Resource Director of Gwinnett County Public School
System.

On Sept. 15th, 2011, Melvin Everson was appointed by Governor Nathan Deal as
the Executive Director and Administrator of Georgia Commission on Equal
Opportunity. Prior to this, Everson was appointed by the Governor as the
Executive Director of the Governor’s Office of Workforce Development.

Everson is the seventh of 10 children born in Abbeville, GA to the late
Northern and Willa B. Everson. He received his formal education in Wilcox
County graduating from Wilcox County High. He received his BS Degree in
Criminology from Albany State University. Everson is married to the former
Ms. Geraldine McAdoo who he lovingly refers to as Gerri.
He and Gerri are the proud parents of one child, Ricardo DeAndre Everson,
who is a graduate of the University of Georgia.

Everson is a 23 year retiree from the US Army having served both active duty
and reserve duty. He was elected to the City Council in Snellville in 2001
and his council peers elected him as Mayor Pro Tem 3 consecutive years. In
2005, Everson was elected to the Georgia House of Representatives in a
special election making history as the first black conservative to win a
contested race to the Georgia General Assembly in
150 years. . He was reelected in 2006 and 2008 with overwhelming margins.
Everson has over 20 years of cooperate experience working in the areas of
human resource, loss prevention, distribution and packing.

In his tenure as a representative, Everson served on the powerful Education,
Small Business Development and Job Creation, Transportation, and Judiciary
Non-Civil Committees. Everson was also appointed by the Speaker to the Child
Fatality Review Panel. Everson also served as an Associate Pastor at Salem
Missionary Baptist Church in Lilburn, Ga. In this role, Everson has helped
coordinate many prayer breakfasts, retreats, workshops, etc. for Salem
Missionary Baptist Church. For more than three years, Everson coordinated
and facilitated worship service at Antonio Graves Apartments formerly known
as Grady Homes for Salem. In October 2014, God lead him to his new ministry
field with Cross Pointe Church in Duluth under the leadership of Dr. James
Merritt.

Everson is the recipient of many community and political awards including
the 2011 Public Service Award from the Gwinnett County Chamber of Commerce,
the 2011 Frederick Douglass Award from the Morehouse Republican Club, the
2011 History Makers Among us Award from Salem Missionary Baptist Church,
Gwinnett United Ebony Society Pace Setter Award, South DeKalb Republican
Pioneer Award, The Gwinnett Black Republican Council Service Award, Clayton
County United Way Campaign Manager Service Award, Omega Si Phi Gwinnett
Chapter 2005 Citizen of the year award, the Network of Politically Active
Christians Award, 2010 Gwinnett Chamber Public Service Award, 2015  100
Black Men of North Metro Image Award, and various medals and ribbons from
the US Military.
Everson is also a proud member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc.
Chapter of Nu Mu Lambda in Decatur where he has served as chaplain.
