Brian Spencer – Brief Biography

• I am 29 years old and have been completely blind since birth because of optic nerve hypoplasia.
• I use a cane to travel and prefer Braille over audio books.
• I attended public school in Gwinnett County from kindergarten through 12th grade.
• During high school, I ran both track and cross country and was named Athlete of the Year while a junior, an honor voted on by my peers.
• I earned a Bachelor’s degree at Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville. I majored in mass communications with a minor in rhetoric. I wanted to be a radio broadcaster due to my love of music and sports.
• I then earned a Master’s degree in professional counseling at Richmont Graduate University in Atlanta.
• I hope to fulfill my passion of counseling motocross riders and their families with this degree while working with the amateur chaplain of motocross.
• I know how to laugh at myself and believe that this helps people to be more comfortable if this is their first experience being around a blind person.
