2012-2-14- Chuck Warbington Gwinnett Village CID

Chuck Warbington, Executive Director of Gwinnett Village CID, spoke at the luncheon meeting of the Lawrenceville Rotary Club on Monday, February 13. After informing the group of his Gwinnett family ties and of his committment to the area, he explained how a Community Improvement District secures its funding and generally how it operates. He then focused on issues facing his Gwinnett Village CID in particular. Many business owners in the district were concerned with the crime rate, and the CID addressed the security issue by researching the problem, hiring off-duty officers for extra patrols, and supporting two additional members of the Norcross Police force. He outlined the group’s efforts to improve the perception people had of the area: the group instigated major landscaping projects along I-85 and helped with clean-up projects. He specifically addressed the traffic problems at I-85 interchanges and discussed future plans for a Diverging Diamond Interchange at Jimmy Carter Boulevard and I-85. Studies are currently being conducted on transportation alternatives for the area to solve the ever-increasing I-85 congestion problems; he emphasized that planning was proceeding cautiously, with an emphasis on cost effectiveness. Members received a copy of the newly released 2011 annual report for Gwinnett Village CID before the meeting was adjourned.
