Jim Beck: Georgia Arson Control Board
07/06/2015 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
The Georgia Underwriting Association (GUA) was created by the Georgia Legislature and functions as an insurance marketplace of last resort providing basic property and liability insurance. GUA insures over $3 billion dollars in real and personal property.
The Georgia Underwriting Association does not compete with the private market, but rather as a complement to the free market. Because GUA exists, the tens of thousands of Georgia families and businesses who may not find other insurance available now have protection.
Through a subsidiary known as Georgia Arson Control, they offer a reward of up to $10,000 for the arrest and conviction of those guilty of the crime of arson.
In November 2011, the Board of Directors of the Georgia Underwriting Association (GUA) concluded an extensive search to recruit and hire a new President. Jim Beck’s background includes working in an independent insurance agency as well as serving for over a decade as Senior Director of Government Relations for a Fortune 150 insurance company. Jim Beck’s service to the state also included a term as Deputy Insurance Commissioner as well as Chief of Staff for the current Insurance Commissioner Ralph T. Hudgens.
He is a Deacon at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Carrollton, where he has been a member for over 20 years. He and his wife, Lucy have one son, Jimmy Beck Jr. who is a senior at Kennesaw State University’s Coles College of Business.
