Liz Serieux: Rotary Global Grant Scholar
05/08/2017 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Elizabeth, or Liz as she is usually called, has always been interested in health and wellbeing and knew from an early age that they would be the foundation of her work in life. True to that path, she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from the Saint Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia Canada, after working for several years in both Saint Lucia and the United States, she later completed both her MPH (concentration Health Policy and Management) and her PhD (Health Promotion and Behavior) at the University of Georgia. Along the way, she also earned all the certificates offered at the time, by the College of Public Health – in Global Health, Gerontology and Disaster Management.
At the MPH graduation ceremony, Liz was named the Most Outstanding Student in Health Policy and was also presented with the Connie Lloyd Award for excellence in Public Health. During her time in the doctoral program, she was fortunate enough to serve as a Teaching Assistant and a Research Assistant; she was awarded the Department’s Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award and was also nominated for the university’s excellence in teaching award. Liz was also lucky enough to receive the Rotary International Foundation Global Scholar Award. This allowed her to earn a Post Graduate Diploma in Instructional Design, with the University of the West Indies, while living in Saint Lucia and engaged in data collection for her doctoral program. She will share some of that experience with us, on May 8 th , as we discuss “The Changing Face of Disease Prevention and Treatment”. We will look at how patterns of illness and the corresponding responses have changed through the years and what that means for us in today’s world.
