PDG Gary Moore: Rotary Foundation

Garland C. “Gary” Moore is an Assistant Regional Rotary Foundation Coordinator for Zone 34, and focuses his efforts in supporting all aspects of The Rotary Foundation for the three Rotary Districts in Georgia.  Gary also  presently serves as an Advisor to Executive Board of Coins for Alzheimer’s Research Trust (CART) Fund.

Gary has served as the 2008-2009 District 6910 Governor (receiving the RI Presidential Citation), and he has also served as:  Georgia Rotary Student Program Parliamentarian (2012-2013), Georgia Rotary Student Program Endowment Fund Trustee (2010-2013), District Chair, Rotary Foundation Future Vision Transition Team (2012-2013), District Chair, Family of Rotary (2011-2012), District Chair, Rotary Fellowships and Action Groups (2011-2013), District Chair, Group Study Exchange Program (2009-2010), District Chair, PolioPlus Campaign (2009-2010) and (2012-2013), Member, Reach Out-to-Africa-Partner Countries Subcommittee for May 1, 2008 thru June 30, 2010 (appointed by Past RI Presidents Wilf Wilkinson, D.K. Lee and John Kenny), District Chair for The Rotary Foundation’s Annual Programs Fund (2005-2007), Assistant District Governor (2002-2006), District Conference Chair for House of Friendship (a/k/a “Party Alley) (2006), District Chair for Community Assistance Programs (2001-2003), and President of the Rotary Club of Rockdale County (2000-2001) (received RI Presidential Citation).

An “Army brat” born at Fort Riley, Kansas, Gary served 12 years in the U.S. Army, and was later a Government Relations consultant for four and one-half years where he focused on site selections, plant openings and closings, literacy solutions and lobbying on a nationwide basis.  An Associate Judge for both the Rockdale County Magistrate Court and the Municipal Court for the City of Conyers, Gary is a criminal defense/family law attorney who has represented clients in 75 Georgia counties, plus Alabama, Arizona, California and North Carolina.

Under the G.I. Bill, Gary earned both his undergraduate degree in Political Science from the University of Georgia and his law degree from Georgia State University College of Law.

An Eagle Scout, Gary currently serves as District Chair for the Boy Scouts of America’s Atlanta Area Council’s Yellow River District (Newton and Rockdale Counties), and has previously served as District Commissioner and as Chair of the Eagle Scout Board of Review.  Gary is a past recipient of the B.S.A. District Award of Merit (2002) and the International Fellowship of Scouting Rotarian’s Cliff Dochterman Rotary and Scouting Service Award (2011).

Gary has also served as a Junior Vice Commander for Conyers’ American Legion Post 77 (served as featured guest speaker at the 2006 Memorial Day and the 1999 and 2012 Veteran’s Day Ceremonies), was named an “Outstanding Georgia Citizen” by former Georgia Secretary of State Max Cleland, was recognized for his service by both the Georgia Department of Labor and the Georgia Department of Human Resources, was a Director for the Georgia Institute for Community Business Development, and was once voted “Favorite Attorney” in the Rockdale Citizen’s reader’s poll.

Gary and his wife Irene have been married 32 years, and their daughter Carey earned a Masters Degree in Music Performance (Flute) at the Longy School of Music, Cambridge, MA and her Bachelor Degree in Music Performance (Flute) from Kennesaw State University..

Having joined Rotary on November 27, 1996, Gary and Irene are both Rotary Foundation Major Donors and their daughter is a Paul Harris Fellow; he is also a member of the Paul Harris Society and the Bequest Society.  Gary is a GRSP Kendall Weisiger Fellow and his wife Irene and daughter Carey are both Will Watt Fellows.

Gary led the successful effort to obtain a Rotary International Commemorative License Plate in Georgia in 2004.

He has been awarded The Rotary Foundation’s Citation for Meritorious Service, three Rotary Foundation District Service Awards, Rotary International’s Four Avenues of Service Citation for Individual Rotarians,  a 17 year Perfect Attendance Award, as well as his home club’s 2009 “Pat Atkins” Service Above Self” Award and 2005 “Service Above Self” Award.  Gary was one of 143 Rotarians worldwide who was recognized by the Rotary International Board of Directors with the 2013 Service Above Self Award.

Gary is a life member of the (1) International Fellowship of Scouting Rotarians, (2) International Fellowship of Rotarian Convention Goers, (3) Rotarian’s Wine Appreciation Fellowship, (4) Rotarian Action Group for Population and Development, and a member of the (5) Rotary Global History Fellowship.

Gary has attended eight Rotary International conventions in Buenos Aires, Argentina (2000), San Antonio, Texas (2001), Brisbane, Australia (2003), Chicago, Illinois (2005), Salt Lake City, Utah (2007), Los Angeles, California (2008), Birmingham, England (2009), and New Orleans, Louisiana (2011), and he also has make-ups from Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, “Little Red Schoolhouse” in Wallingford, Vermont and Rotary Club/One in Chicago, as well as Argentina, Australia, Bahamas, England, Kenya, New Zealand and Trinidad.
