Gov Alan Smith is a native of Savannah, which fact will occur at least once in every conversation.   Alan is passionate about the role of Rotary in the world and the local community.   He was invited to join the RC of Thomson in 1987 and has been a member of 5 different clubs since.  He is now a member of the RC of Thomson. He has served in several positions in our district including being the chair of the Foundation Training Team.  He is a member of the Paul Harris Society and is a Will Watt Fellow.   He is a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer in Guinea, West Africa.  Although he was once fluent in French, now he can only mutter poorly.  A retired United Methodist minister, he is married to the former Judy Murph of Aiken; they have two sons and two grandchildren.   They live in 170 year old house that they restored in Thomson.
