Katie Machaud, Director of Oncology Services at Gwinnett Medical Center, greeted visiting Rotarians at the Cancer Institude located at 631 Professional Blvd and gave them an informative folder outlining the new programs that have been developed at Gwinnett Medical Center to serve cancer patients.  She introduced oncologist Dr. Anthony Landis who gave the history of the development of the Center and then she presented a slide show providing information about the following new programs:  The Cancer Support Center which now offers nutrition, social work, hereditary cancer and risk assessment help, as well as other programs; the Cancer Transitions program which helps patients bridge the transition from treatment to their normal lives; a Post-Biopsy Breast Clinic; and a Thoracic Oncology Program.  She focused on lung cancer treatments and testing because lung cancer is the number one cause of death and emphasized the importance of pre-screening.  She talked about future plans to enter into an agreement with Duke University that would make clinical trials an option at GMC.
